Staff presented a one-year total (as quoted) and estimated a three-year option would save about $2,000 before future vendor increases.
A Verkada representative told the board the company has announced a 15% price increase effective Nov. 1; choosing the three-year option would lock in the current pricing for the city's cameras and avoid that near-term increase. Staff advised that co-terming licensing reduces administrative overhead and stabilizes annual renewal timing.
After discussion about necessity and the cameras' role in security and operations, including the intercoms and protection for multiple municipal buildings, Alderman Harrell moved and Alderman Brightshaft seconded a motion to approve the three-year renewal. The motion carried on a voice vote.
What happens next: staff will finalize the three-year transaction and implement the co-terming schedule so all active cameras are on the same renewal date.
