Park board votes to make Tree Board a park-board subcommittee; code change to go to City Council

The Park Board voted 8–0 (1 absent) to amend Chapter 2.60 (Tree Maintenance and Care) to convert the Tree Board into a three-member subcommittee of the Park Board. The change must be approved by City Council and, if approved, would take effect Jan. 2026.
The Raymore Park Board on Oct. 28 voted to amend Chapter 2.60 of the city code to reconstitute the Tree Board as a subcommittee of the Park Board.
Park staff explained that the change responds to vacancies and long-serving members leaving the separate Tree Board. The proposed amendment would establish a three-member tree subcommittee appointed by the Park Board chair each January, with two city staff members serving (the parks staff and either the parks director or another city appointee if the city manager prefers). Staff said the revision preserves the substantive provisions of the chapter and is intended to maintain the city’s Tree City USA eligibility.
Because the rewrite requires a change to city code, staff said the Park Board’s approval forwards the amendment to the City Council for consideration; if the council approves the ordinance amendment it would take effect Jan. 2026. A motion to amend Chapter 2.60 was made, seconded and passed by the board by an 8–0 vote with one member absent.
Board members had no substantive questions during the meeting. Staff indicated a red-lined packet page showed the proposed language change and that the remainder of Chapter 2.60 would remain unchanged.
