Raymore Park Board approves park-adoption agreement with Wheelhouse Baseball

The Raymore Park Board on Oct. 28 approved an agreement with Wheelhouse Baseball to sponsor department events and adopt a portion of Recreation Park.

Under the adopted Park Beautification Adoption Agreement, Wheelhouse Baseball will be the title sponsor of the Rugged Raymour event, provide volunteers together with the Optimist Club, and adopt the play-fort area behind the Recreation Park soccer fields. The organization will perform three volunteer clean-up/repair events each year at that location, and the department will allow a reduced hourly field rental rate for guaranteed field time outside the city’s baseball season; charges for lights, field dragging and chalking are excluded from the reduced rate. Wheelhouse will also supply two department banners (one at the baseball fields and one at Recreation Park).

Park staff told the board the agreement reflects language already reviewed in a prior work session and that day-to-day execution will be handled at the staff level. The written agreement and a signed copy from Wheelhouse were included in the meeting packet. Staff said the arrangement is intended to formalize a partnership the groups already use in practice.

A motion to adopt the agreement was made and seconded; the board voted 8–0 with one member absent to approve the agreement. The director said implementation and scheduling of field time will be coordinated between Wheelhouse, staff and the city’s calendar.

Board members spoke in favor of local partnerships and said the agreement will help maintain the fort area and support youth programming.
