The Carl Junction Board of Aldermen approved change order number 2 to the Elements Construction Concepts contract for the West Bridal Brook Lane stormwater drainage ditch project, adding $3,724 to the contract and bringing the revised total to $321,838. The council adopted the ordinance after first and second readings and a recorded vote of seven in favor with one absence.
City staff said crews uncovered an unanticipated sewer lateral while performing the dirt work; the lateral had to be relocated so the contractor could place the drainage structure at the required depth. Staff described the finding as unforeseen, noting the city does not have complete records of all private sewer lateral locations and depths. The work required additional pipe, fittings and bedding rock documented in the change order.
The ordinance authorizes the mayor or city administrator to sign the change order on behalf of the city. Council members voted to finalize the change order to close out issues discovered during construction; staff reported the stormwater project is roughly 25% complete overall.
