Shelton hears draft Mason County 2025–2030 homeless housing plan; consultants urge more prevention, shelter and supportive housing

Shelton — Consultants for Mason County presented a draft 2025–2030 Homeless Housing Plan to the City of Shelton on Oct. 28, saying the plan will emphasize prevention, better data, strengthened provider coordination and an expanded mix of housing and shelter to reduce homelessness across the county.

"The 2025 period is really the planning period," said Carolyn Wiley, principal consultant for Partners for Community Impact, describing the plan’s role in converting Washington State Department of Commerce objectives into county actions. "Within each county you’re able to set your strategies and action steps, metrics — those kinds of things about how you would want to carry those out, and what’s really relevant locally."

The consultants said the plan adapts five statewide objectives set by the Department of Commerce: increase equity, accountability and transparency; strengthen the homeless‑service provider workforce; prevent episodes of homelessness; prioritize households with the greatest barriers and risk of harm; and expand housing so people are placed in stable settings that meet their needs.
