Committee approves on-sale liquor license for Chiba Hut Uptown with limited entertainment

Licensing staff recommended approval of an on-sale liquor license (limited entertainment, Sunday sales and 2 a.m.) for Chiba Hut Uptown, located at 1118 W. Lake St. in Ward 10. Alexis Sorensen of Licensing Consumer Services presented the application, saying the establishment plans casual dining with a bar, occasional live music or DJs ("3 or 4 times a year"), 37 interior seats and a 26-person private patio. Notices were mailed to residents and neighborhood groups and no responses opposing the license were reported.
Owner Nick said the project has been ongoing for about three years, he took over the business three months ago and hopes to open Dec. 8. "We're shooting for a December 8 open to the public," he said. The committee opened and closed the public hearing and approved the license by voice vote.
Licensing staff said a review of 311 calls, police calls and operating conditions found no significant issues and recommended approval.
