The Miami Lakes planning committee assigned volunteer responsibilities to reduce gaps in the parade and to provide hydration and crowd control.
Organizers described a plan with four sections along the route; each section will have two volunteers who will hold the lineup cards, walk their section with a stop sign and radio, and hand cards to the MCs at Main Street and at Town Hall. Nancy and Kathy explained volunteers are critical to pause units for performances and prevent long delays between groups.
The committee also assigned volunteers to water stations, mascot-change areas and flag distribution. Student volunteers (the committee reported about 17 confirmed student volunteers) will be paired with adult volunteers and were given guidance to arrive early, wear committee shirts and bring sunscreen and water. Organizers emphasized heat safety and asked volunteers to wear light clothing and arrive with a good breakfast.
Radios were distributed as the primary communication tool and cell phones as the backup in case radio coverage is poor. Volunteers were asked to meet at registration by 09:00; section leads were asked to arrive earlier to walk the route and rehearse stop-and-go procedures.
Next steps: assignment sheets and maps will be sent to volunteers through the committee WhatsApp group and organizers will distribute volunteer shirts the morning of the event.
