Operations committee approves $725,000 appropriation from risk reserves to cover settlement

The Peoria County Operations Committee on Oct. 28 approved a $725,000 appropriation from the county's risk management reserves to pay a large civil litigation settlement previously approved by the board and to cover pending liability expenses and monthly liability costs.
Angela McCord, chief financial officer, told the committee that the board had previously approved the settlement in April but the payment has not yet been made and this appropriation is required to issue the check. "In front of you is an ask to appropriate $725,000 from the risk management reserves in order to cover ... the board had approved a large civil litigation settlement," McCord said.
Member Williams noted the action was procedural because the board already approved the settlement. Member Duncan asked whether the case was covered by the county's reinsurer; McCord said there was no coverage from the reinsurer for this claim and that the payment will come from the county's risk management fund.
The committee approved the appropriation unanimously.
