Greene County solid-waste board approves $16,000 replacement of two overhead doors

The Greene County Solid Waste Board voted to replace two failing overhead overhead doors at its county facility and authorized staff to sign a contract once a written quote is finalized.

The board approved a motion to replace both doors after members said repairs would be repeatedly needed and that replacement would be more cost-effective. Speaker 1, a Greene County board member, said, “I hate to throw good money at bad, and we can fix those doors, but, they're just shot.” The member said an earlier bid priced replacing each 16-by-16 door (noting a 14-by-16 replacement was discussed) and that the vendor had revised costs to about $16,000 to replace both doors.

Board members also discussed ancillary work and equipment choices. Speaker 1 said the siding around the openings will not be replaced and that leftover siding from a previous project could be reused to limit appearance mismatches. He told members the vendor recommended a high-rise track and that the group chose to upgrade openers from half-horsepower to three-quarter-horsepower. “I felt better with 3 quarter horsepower openers on,” Speaker 1 said.

The motion passed by voice vote. Members directed staff to get a written quote from the vendor and, with Marvin’s approval, to sign the contract and proceed with installation.
