The Elkhart City Police Merit Commission voted Oct. 27 to accept a jointly agreed disciplinary disposition for Sergeant Michael Vanes Booyk.
Chief Dan Milanese said the disposition was the only item on the agenda and that "all parties have agreed to this" before asking the commission to implement the terms. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the recommendation by voice vote.
The decision followed a brief presentation from Milanese and required no further discussion at the meeting. The commission recorded the vote as carried; commissioners present spoke in favor. President Jim Rickoff and Rev. Jean Mays were absent.
Milanese also reported that the department's recent awards ceremony "went really, really well" and thanked commissioners for their support. There were no members of the public in the chambers and no online comments during the public-participation period.
The commission adjourned shortly after the vote. The minutes and any formal order implementing the disposition were not specified during the meeting.
