The Milan Area Schools Board of Education recorded a series of unanimous procedural and personnel votes Oct. 29.
Minutes: The board approved the minutes of the regular Oct. 8 meeting and the Oct. 8 closed session meeting. Both motions passed 6-0 following standard roll-call votes.
FCI graduates: The board approved the list of FCI graduates in attachment C "contingent upon their completion of all graduation requirements." The liaison cited four confirmed graduates for the Nov. 5 ceremony and additional students who remain pending paperwork.
Personnel: The board approved the appointment of Philip Hayes as Milan Middle School physical education teacher, effective Oct. 29, 2025. Hayes has served as a long-term substitute and as varsity and junior-varsity soccer coach; the board discussed his completion of alternate-certification steps and issuance of an interim teaching certificate.
Closed session: The board voted to enter closed session under section 8(1)(c) of the Michigan Open Meetings Act to discuss negotiation strategy; the motion passed 6-0. The board returned to open session at about 10:05 p.m. and adjourned the meeting the same minute.
