Raytown aldermen say staff will present plan on using parks for FIFA-related overflow parking

Alderman Hayden reported Oct. 21 that the Raytown Park Board discussed maintenance items, contract bids and a lengthy conversation about possibly using one of the city parks for overflow parking related to FIFA activities in 2026.
Hayden said the board discussed logistics including security and whether to use the dog park because it is more isolated. She reported the park board is “trying to decide, and that's the reason why they're using a outside, because they know that people are gonna wanna park in the park.”
Alderman Walters asked which park staff had discussed for parking; Hayden said the dog park was the closest and has the largest parking lot. Some aldermen noted residents had expressed concerns that unrestricted parking could spill onto neighborhood streets near Coleman Park.
The mayor told aldermen that staff and event partners will present a consolidated plan when information is stable, saying, "All of these things ... we will discuss them at that time so that we have our latest information." The mayor and Hayden said the planning group has been meeting for about two years and that local stakeholders, including Raytown representatives, have been involved.
No formal action or vote was taken on the matter at the Oct. 21 meeting. Aldermen said they expect a staff presentation with specific proposals, security plans and traffic/parking controls before the board would consider approval.
