The project is budgeted for the current fiscal year; staff said, after Council approval, the playground could be installed in January with a 10–12 week delivery schedule.
Staff presented the design and explained the shift under tree canopy will provide more natural shade than the current playground location. The proposal calls for climbing apparatus, additional swings, spring play animals and a creative play element; staff said the scheme is budgeted and the project came in under budget during procurement.
“We will move it under the shade under the trees. It’ll double in size and move under the trees for some natural shade,” staff said. A committee member asked whether engineered mulch permits wheelchair access; staff confirmed engineered mulch allows wheelchair passage.
A committee member moved to approve the Hardy Park playground design and another seconded the motion. The committee voted in favor. Staff told the committee they would present the project to City Council at the November meeting so procurement and installation can proceed with a target to have construction in January.
What happens next: staff will transmit the design and budget to City Council for approval and proceed with procurement on approval; the committee will receive updates about installation timing and any site adjustments.
