The board adopted two proclamations recognizing November 2025: Military Appreciation Month (proclamation 55) and National Family Caregivers Month (proclamation 56). Penn State representatives outlined planned events for veterans; county Office of Aging staff described caregiver program supports and the county’s caregiver reimbursement benefits.
The Centre County Board of Commissioners adopted two proclamations during its Oct. 28 meeting: proclamation 55, recognizing November 2025 as Military Appreciation Month, and proclamation 56, recognizing November 2025 as National Family Caregivers Month.
Penn State representatives Eugene McFeely and Julian Morales joined commissioners for the military proclamation and described a weeklong schedule of events at Penn State, including a banner unveiling, tailgates, a veteran-themed art event and other community activities running Nov. 7–14. "We very much appreciate our partnership with Penn State in this area," a commissioner said. Morales encouraged Centre County residents to participate and pointed reporters to militaryappreciation.psu.edu for the event schedule.
For caregivers, county Office of Aging staff summarized national and local caregiving statistics and explained the county’s caregiver support program. Brandy said the program offers resources such as adult day care, respite care and reimbursement for supplies; the program provides up to $600 reimbursement for supplies and respite care based on household income and a lifetime reimbursement benefit of up to $5,000.
Caregiver-support staff also described counseling, training opportunities and a newsletter for caregivers. Commissioners thanked the Office of Aging and nonprofit partners, including Meals on Wheels volunteers, and voted to adopt proclamation 56.
Both proclamations were adopted by voice vote.
