Parent tells WESD board her child's special-education program has not produced measurable progress

"My daughter's special education program continues to fail her," Alleva said during the public-comment period, saying the issues began with a low-rigor IEP, poor-quality instruction and what she called a "forced social promotion" by the IEP team. Alleva said the district corrected the forced-promotion issue after she raised it but that her daughter still shows "no measurable growth despite the oversight of the director of special education."
Alleva told the board she is not alone and said neighbors and friends have filed state complaints and prevailed, adding that the families "are not receiving an appropriate education under federal law." She described her appearance as advocacy for her daughter and other children who cannot advocate for themselves.
Board members did not take immediate formal action on the comment during the meeting record; members may request staff follow-up under board procedures for responding to public comment.
