Trustees hear safety-audit results, Mendez update and tribute to Nan Clayton

The Austin ISD board on Thursday received three short updates: a TEA intruder-detection audit summary, a quarterly report on Third Future'operated Mendez campus, and a tribute to Nan Clayton.
Joshua John reported that TEA audited 21 Austin ISD schools in September and October on intruder-detection procedures; eight campuses had one or more findings requiring corrective action. The district noted TEA plans to audit 75 percent of Austin ISD campuses during the 2025'26 school year.
Trustees observed a moment to honor the late Nan Clayton, a longtime Austin ISD board member credited with advocacy for full-day kindergarten and desegregation-era leadership; Trustee Kaufman offered remembrances about Clayton's decades of service.
Third Future representatives presented a quarterly update on operations at Mendez. Trustees requested consolidated performance documents including recent NWA (NWEA) data, a district summary report, and percentages for analyses of targeted supports. Board members also noted Mendez has not offered Algebra I since Third Future assumed operations in 2022 and asked for clarification on middle-school course offerings across the district.
District staff said additional data and answers will be supplied to board members.
