Bel Air work session: paving, water repair, new traffic light and a school-crossing study announced

Staff reported near-term infrastructure work: upcoming paving of Pennsylvania Avenue segments, a water-leak repair (temporary pavement patch) at Gordon and Hickory, a new speed bump on East Broadway and a traffic signal installation at Pennsylvania and Bond.
At the Oct. 28 work session staff read the town administrator's report and identified near-term public-works items for residents and commissioners.
Michael Krantz read the report on behalf of the town administrator. He told commissioners BGE will move up paving on Pennsylvania Avenue within the next week, weather permitting, with daytime paving scheduled from Shannon Drive to Hickory Avenue, nighttime paving from Hickory to Bond, and daytime paving from Bond to Hayes Street that will also include a portion of Hayes Street.
Staff reported that Maryland American Water repaired a water leak at Gordon and Hickory; the pavement still has a noticeable depression and staff said the current surface is a temporary patch. A speed bump was installed in the 500 block of East Broadway, and a new traffic signal is being installed at Pennsylvania Avenue and Bond Street after a multi-year request initiated by Chief Moore and community concerns.
In another traffic initiative, staff said the town submitted a request to the state highway agency to study Route 924 and Idlewild Road at the request of a resident whose children walk to school there. Residents who brought the issue to the town have also communicated with the school board and other elected officials.
These items were presented as informational; because the session had no quorum there was no formal board action at the Oct. 28 meeting.
