Laramie County School District #1 urges parents to start with teachers, use ParentSquare and ClassLink to support students

A district staff member for Laramie County School District #1 said district leaders view parent communication and engagement as central to student success. "We think that parent communication engagement in all schools in the district are very important and, are have a big impact on student achievement," the staff member said.
Staff outlined a simple process for families seeking help: start by contacting the classroom teacher, use ParentSquare to make the teacher aware of the concern, and, if needed, reach out to school administrators. "The process starts with the teacher. Obviously, that's the grassroots. Right? You're gonna get to the heart of the problem if you contact the teacher, and express your concerns," another staff member said. "A really great place to start is to reach out to the teacher through Parent Square. So that way the teacher is aware of the concern and can help work through that with you and also provide a little bit more context," the staff member added.
The district directed parents to tools on the district website to support learning at home. "A really great option is to go to our our district website, miraby1.org, and click on the, students and families icon and go into class link because your child can access a lot of academic, apps through that that we use in the classroom," staff said, noting students can use those apps at home or on weekends. Staff also noted Canvas often contains a to-do list for assignments and reminded parents they can contact teachers or attend conferences for more information.
Beyond digital tools, staff encouraged volunteering and participation in school groups. "You can also reach out to the school to see, if the classroom is hosting volunteers," a staff member said, listing activities such as reading with students, preparing materials and supporting classroom teachers. Staff pointed to PTO organizations, club sponsors and coaches as additional contacts for parents seeking ways to plug in.
District staff closed by reiterating the district's willingness to partner with families. "The school's here to partner with our families and our community, and to provide the best education we can for your children," a staff member said. "So anytime you reach out, know that we're happy to work with you. We want your involvement and your voice in our schools, because you are the experts for your child."
