Albuquerque Public Schools staff presented seven grant budget adjustment requests to the Finance Committee on Oct. 22, including a carryover for a CSI grant and awards for Johnson O'Malley programs, an environmental STEM pathway, wellness-rooms pilot, secondary disciplinary literacy, and Corporation for Public Broadcasting restricted and unrestricted funds.
Miss Marin presented the item and told the committee, "The only significant amount grant is the carryover for the CSI grant. And either than that, I stand for questions." When Board member Reynaldo Tomorito pointed out the packet language describing Johnson O'Malley as providing for "special educational needs of eligible American Indian, Alaska Native," staff agreed there was room for misinterpretation and said they would revise the description to make clear the grant supports the particular needs of identified students rather than being a special-education grant.
Members clarified that the committee was approving acceptance of the grants; subsequent MPD budget approval would make the funds available for expenditure. The grant-acceptance item was included in the consent package the committee recommended to the full board.
