Finance committee recommends open contract with EduSolv for leadership development, estimated up to $1.2M

The Albuquerque Public Schools Finance Committee on Oct. 22 recommended that the full Board of Education consider an open contract with EduSolv to provide leadership development, performance management and internal project management services.

Staff described the selection process and evaluation materials in the meeting packet. Miss Apodaca told the committee the selected vendor is EduSolv and that the district estimates a not-to-exceed amount of $1,200,000 over four years "depending on district need and available budget." The contract was described as an open purchase order (PO) that the district will invoke by task order as needs arise.

Dr. Malerwein, who said he began work with the district Aug. 1, described the consultants' current role as setting up systems and structures to monitor and implement 90-day plans aligned to the district's four board goals. "They work with me basically on a consultative basis," he said, adding the work began at the executive level and is intended to cascade to site-level leaders and principals so that instructional strategies are implemented in classrooms.

Committee members asked whether the contract work includes direct professional development for teachers and whether the firm would work directly with the governing board. Staff responded that the PO is needs-based and that any work for the board would require a separate request and task order under the contract.

The committee recommended the contract to the full board as part of a consent package; final approval rests with the full Board of Education.
