School committee approves student travel and agrees to host gymnastics co‑op

The Hopkinton School Committee on Oct. 9 approved multiple requests for student travel and authorized Hopkinton to serve as host for the high‑school gymnastics cooperative for the upcoming winter season.
District staff presented four travel requests from Hopkinton High School: the Business Professionals of America state leadership conference (Southbridge, March 6–8), the national Invent convention (Dearborn, June 3–5), the VEX Robotics World Championship (St. Louis, April 20–25) and the BPA national leadership conference (Nashville, May; exact dates in packet). The committee moved and approved travel for the BPA and robotics groups.
On the gymnastics co‑op, staff said Medway — the originally approved host — withdrew when it lacked participating athletes. Hopkinton has the majority of interested students and will assume host responsibilities while continuing the co‑op with Holliston and Millis and sharing costs through participation fees. Staff estimated Hopkinton’s net cost at about $14,889, with facility rental and official fees to be paid from contracted services and coaching stipends covered by the athletic revolving account. The committee voted to approve Hopkinton as the host district.
