Lancaster ISD honors staff and principals; Rolling Hills and BAML report academic and enrollment updates

Lancaster ISD trustees used part of the Oct. 30 meeting to recognize staff across the district and to hear campus updates from Rolling Hills Engineering Academy and the Barack and Michelle Obama (BAML) ninth grade campus.
District communications staff highlighted October recognitions for custodians, teachers, coaches, nutrition staff, HR and bus drivers, noted superintendent participation in statewide leadership events, and thanked community partners for donations and event support.
LaJoyce Johnson, principal of Rolling Hills Engineering Academy, told trustees the campus serves about 361 students (approximately 15 fewer than the prior year), employs 27 teachers, and has raised its campus performance rating to 78 (two points from a B). "Our current school year's enrollment sits at about 15 students less and is currently at a total of 361 students," Johnson said. She described targeted small-group instruction, restorative practices, attendance incentives and a focus on social-emotional learning.
Addison Russ, principal of the Barack and Michelle Obama ninth grade campus, reported enrollment of 398 students (343 in traditional pathways and 55 in P‑TECH). Russ outlined academic targets for reading, biology and algebra, and noted declines in disciplinary removals: "Our out of school suspensions have decreased by 85%, and in school suspensions decreased by 71." He said the campus conducts quarterly budget reviews and uses data to allocate resources.
Board members applauded staff recognitions and had no action on the campus presentations; staff said some sites will serve as polling locations for upcoming elections and reminded the public of district volunteer and donation drives for holiday food and toy programs.
