Vallejo EDC forms Sonoma Boulevard business-retention subcommittee, appoints three members

On Oct. 8, 2025, the Vallejo Economic Development Commission voted unanimously to adopt Resolution EDC25-02 creating a one-year ad hoc subcommittee to focus on business retention and expansion in the Sonoma Boulevard corridor.
The subcommittee’s charge, recorded in the resolution included: conducting business site visits and retention interviews; connecting businesses with grants and local incentives; engaging law enforcement about safety enhancements; meeting with landlords and property owners to match vacancies with prospective tenants; and employing measures to learn opportunities and barriers for businesses in the corridor. "A, conduct business site visits and business retention interviews to learn about needs and challenges and to explore strategies for retaining and expanding same," staff read from the draft resolution during the meeting.
Chair Lufus announced the three volunteers appointed to the group: Commissioner Williams, Vice Chair Monroe and Commissioner Mitchell. "So that's 3, so no more can join," Chair Lufus said when confirming appointments. Commissioners moved and seconded the resolution and the roll call vote recorded support from all members present; the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioners debated the broader subcommittee creation process earlier in the meeting, with several members seeking clearer steps so other proposed subcommittees could move from initial discussion to formal appointment. Staff described a two-step process: an initial discussion to scope the charge followed by a formal resolution that sets duration and membership. Several commissioners said prior proposals had stalled for lack of specificity; staff agreed to provide clearer updates when items could not move forward.
The newly formed Sonoma Boulevard subcommittee will meet monthly, report back to the full commission, and is charged with engaging businesses, landlords and public-safety partners to support retention and corridor improvements. The subcommittee may return to the commission with budget requests, outreach plans, or proposed incentives.
