Auburn proclaims Breast Cancer Awareness Month, backs DeWitt Theater restoration

The council also issued a proclamation supporting restoration of the DeWitt Theater in North Auburn. The proclamation recounted the theater's history — opened in 1943 as part of the DeWitt military hospital, later serving hospital patients and local residents, and used as a community venue through 2016 — and endorsed the nonprofit DeWitt Community Complex's proposal to restore the theater as a mid-sized, affordable performance space. Mayor Amara said the restoration would “strengthen our arts, economy, and community identity.”
Both proclamations were read by the mayor on behalf of the council; no formal votes were recorded on either proclamation. The council did not take additional action on funding or specific next steps for the DeWitt Theater during the meeting.
