Board approves multiple policy updates; 16‑20 (Board‑Superintendent relationship) passes 4–1 after debate over procedure

At the regular meeting trustees considered a package of policy actions and the consent agenda and took votes on several items.
On final reading the board approved the Board‑Superintendent relationship policy (16‑20). The motion passed on a roll‑call vote, 4–1; one trustee voted no after expressing concerns about language in an accompanying procedure (16‑20P) that the board requested be reviewed and clarified. Several trustees said the policy text itself was consistent with WASDA model language but asked staff to return to address procedure language that some members found overly broad about communications and school visits.
The board also approved a set of policies and retirements (including retirements of policies 17‑50, 61‑02, 61‑03 and others) and approved revised or renumbered policies consistent with WADSA conventions. Most of those items passed on voice votes or unanimous roll calls (5–0) with limited discussion. The board approved consent agenda items 9.01–9.11 and accepted gifts and donations noted in the packet.
No individual program or budget item was adopted as part of these votes beyond the procedural and policy updates. Trustees asked for additional review and public posting of procedures where requested, and staff said they would return with revised language when available.
