The Tiverton Town Council approved several municipal procurement and contract items at its Oct. 27 meeting.
Administrator Jones asked the council to authorize him to solicit bids and purchase storage containers for the Department of Public Works to centralize seasonal storage; the council approved authorization for containers not to exceed $7,500 in total and discussed funding from municipal capital. "I'd like to entertain a motion to authorize the administrator to purchase storage containers for DPW in an amount not to exceed $7,500," the council president said; councilors approved the motion with a discretionary language allowing for a third container if within budget.
On a separate DPW procurement, Director Sylvia presented a single bid response for on-site concrete crushing to create 3/4-inch gravel; A.J. Potter Jr. & Sons was the sole bidder and the council voted to award the contract. The director noted the crushed material could be used as road base.
The council ratified the town's annual number-2 heating oil contract with Casey's Oil & Propane at a locked-in price of $2.75 per gallon through a multi-entity procurement administered by the school department. Administrator Jones and Councilors thanked school staff for coordinating the cooperative bid.
Finally, Administrator Jones requested an increase to the town-hall furniture appropriation from $25,000 to $33,000 to cover setup fees and tariffs. Councilor Burke moved to increase the allocation with the overage to come from municipal capital; the motion passed. Councilors discussed funding sources and confirmed the municipal-capital transfer would be used for the difference.
A separate request to contract Parr Engineering for a feasibility study of a combined DPW recycling center and public-safety complex was discussed and continued to the next meeting to allow the council to review cost breakdowns and hear from the town's contracted engineer.
