Board authorizes additional special-education aide hours to serve newly arrived students

The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District Board approved additional special-education aide hours at its Oct. 27 meeting to support newly arrived students.
Alan Keiser moved to create four 5.5-hour special-education aide positions and to add 1.5 hours to an existing special-education aide position; Meredith Whitman seconded. Trustees asked whether the positions reflected a recent change in student needs; presenters said the additional aide was approved prior to the start of the school year after unanticipated enrollment and service needs emerged.
The board approved the motion by voice vote. Administrators said they will fill the positions to provide direct classroom and individualized support and will continue to monitor needs as enrollment evolves.
The vote authorizes staff to proceed with hiring and scheduling for the newly approved aide hours.
