Trustees hear business, parks and DPW updates; state tree grant funds now available

Trustees at the Village of Ballston Spa—s October 2025 meeting received several liaison and department reports covering business events, parks and tree work, arts committee deadlines and Department of Public Works operations.
Trustee Von Pitts said the Business Association will hold a joint networking breakfast at Nourish and Spoken on Nov. 4 and is preparing for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29 and the holiday parade on Dec. 5. She also noted a Revitalize Ballston Spa committee public workshop on Nov. 20 at the solar building.
Caitlin Paruana of the Park & Tree Board reported that winterization work on newer trees (weeding, mulching, pruning and trunk wrapping) is underway and that a tree grant applied for in 2023 and awarded in 2024 now has state funds available to support planting, pruning and removal work along Milton Avenue, Front Street, Low Street and other locations when weather permits.
Committee on the Arts items were discussed, including application deadlines for Saratoga Arts grants and an upcoming concert (Nov. 15) in Brookside. Trustees encouraged committee members to prepare a slate of projects for review.
DPW reported that paving for the year is complete, brush pickup will begin Tuesday and hydrant winterizing will resume once paving-related delays are cleared. DPW staff said a new mechanic has joined the department; one DPW employee recently left and the position will be filled. Staff also said a newly ordered Chevy dump truck is ready for delivery pending approval and that two international dump trucks ordered years earlier are in final outfitting with expected delivery in November and early December. Smith Controls has been replacing the metering system approved in June and it is expected to be operational this week.
