Board adopts 2026–27 modified school-year calendar on first reading after public feedback

Pickens County trustees adopted the district’s recommended 2026–27 school calendar on first reading at the Oct. 27 meeting, choosing the administration’s version 1.2 after a public outreach process that collected more than 2,600 responses.
Calendar staff said the district posts five years of calendars online and gathers input from staff, families and the community. The recommended calendar continues the district’s modified school-year model with a late-August start and an end in June, balanced semester and quarter breaks intended to reduce learning loss, and scheduled closures for even-year elections. Staff noted two small changes from an initial draft: moving an Oct. 5 date to November and shifting a February date to break a long stretch of continuous instruction.
Respondents favored the late-August start and end-by-June approach (about 70–83% support on a key question, staff said), and roughly 52.5% of respondents preferred version 1.2. The board voted in favor of the calendar (first reading). Administration said the full calendar and supporting details will be posted on the district website.
