Vermillion County board confirms 2026 budget process and approves meeting and program dates

At the meeting, staff reviewed the Solid Waste Board’s 2026 budget materials, noting the county council had approved the board’s budget at a recent meeting. The budget submission follows the required Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) process for the special district, even though the board is not issuing or collecting taxes. Staff said the board is planning to use reserve funds to cover a $40,000 placeholder item listed as 'Coxaway Day' in the 2026 budget.
Board members said the county council reviewed the proposed budget at a special meeting on Sept. 30 and raised no questions; the council later approved the budget unanimously. Staff said future budgets will be prepared and presented through the correct DLGF gateway process and that program selection and vendor solicitation for 'Coxaway Day' will occur early in 2026.
The board also approved the proposed 2026 meeting dates (08:30 a.m., Commissioners' Court) and approved program dates for 2026 by motion: spring cleanup on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11; tire recycling on Saturday, May 16 (moved one week to avoid Mother's Day); and a fall countywide cleanup in September. Members directed staff to post the approved dates on the county website and to conduct vendor selection for event services in early 2026.
