City Community Services staff told the commission on Oct. 27, 2025, that crews repaired two failed taco pumps at the Charles Brooks Swim Center by reallocating parts so both boilers could be returned to service; staff said spare parts have been ordered to reduce future downtime.
Staff also reported several completed park improvements: automatic-opening ADA restroom doors were installed on one set of community center restrooms with plans to work on the other side; decomposed granite was added to walking paths at Crawford and Woodside; engineered wood fiber was placed in playgrounds at Crawford and Everman; and new park benches were installed at Everman.
On programming, staff summarized recent events and new offerings. The department staged a four-movie series and moved movie nights to Freeman Park ("movies on Main") for safety; staff reported the dive-in movie at the pool had an estimated 700 people in attendance. New programs launched this season included two sessions of youth flag football with 10 and 11 participants respectively, and toddler-focused classes (mini Monet art and "little sport") where staff are evaluating age-appropriate groupings and attention-span considerations for 2–4 year-olds.
Staff said the pool parking-lot project is progressing, landscaping plants arrived and irrigation work was under way; a fuller update from the project engineer is expected next month.
Direct quote from the staff presentation: “We had to scramble and put parts together from one boiler to get at least one of the boilers up and running. Now they’re both up and running but we had to scramble there for a minute.”
