Council directs $20 million push for deferred maintenance; asks staff to explore community center and youth-sports complex options

The Rancho Cordova City Council directed staff to pursue a $20 million program to expedite deferred maintenance on city streets and stormwater facilities and asked for further study of a multipurpose community center and a permanent youth‑sports complex following extensive public comment.

City public works manager Albert Stricker told the council that the city faces roughly $85 million in pavement deferred maintenance today — a figure that could grow to about $146 million over the next decade at current funding levels — and presented a plan that a $20 million infusion would materially improve conditions, lifting the pavement condition index and reducing long‑term repair costs.
