Cotati proclaims October Disability Employment Awareness Month and Nov. 2 Transgender Day of Remembrance

The Cotati City Council on Oct. 28 issued proclamations recognizing October 2025 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Nov. 2, 2025 as Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Mayor Ford read the disability proclamation and invited Anna Tintur Brasse of Becoming Independent to speak. "As an employment specialist, my role is to help our clients find meaningful work," Tintur Brasse said, describing services that include employment coaching, a day program and independent‑living supports. She noted Becoming Independent has served the area since 1967.

Councilmember Savage read the Transgender Day of Remembrance proclamation and invited community members to comment. A speaker identified at the meeting as Althea urged local officials and residents to ‘‘stand up, take care of our neighbors’’ and described a remembrance service scheduled for Nov. 2 at Nir Shalom.

Members of the public who joined by Zoom praised the proclamations. Adrian Lobby, introducing himself as a Cotati resident, said both resolutions were "synchronistic" and urged continued hiring of people with disabilities, noting cuts to federal benefits could have an outsized effect on those communities.

The council presented copies of the proclamations and posed for photographs. No formal action beyond the proclamations was required.
