Elections office announces new absentee coordinator, early-voting site and schedule ahead of Nov. 3

The Buncombe County elections office announced staff and operational updates for the upcoming election, including a new absentee coordinator, active early-voting operations and a planned additional early-voting site in Weaverville.
Staff reported that Aaron Bell has accepted the absentee coordinator position and will begin on Nov. 17. Office officials said Bell brings elections experience at the state and county level in Georgia. Early-voting participation at the office was described as approaching 200 voters.
Staff also noted state-level legislative changes that altered school board elections: school board districts and the election cycle now require both primary and general elections, and filing deadlines moved from summer to December. The office issued a press release and contacted the Board of Education to alert potential candidates to the new filing schedule.
Logistics for election day were reviewed: polling machines will be delivered to election-day sites this week, staff will set up a second early-voting site at the Weaverville Community Center on Friday, and the office will be open on the weekend and Monday, Nov. 3, to process absentee ballots and minimize processing on election day. Staff reiterated deadlines for ballot returns and cure windows for overseas and disabled-near-relative requests.
The board thanked staff for the updates and scheduled its next meeting for Monday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
