HBG Flea marks 10 years as Harrisburg issues proclamation

Megan Weaver, founder of the HBG Flea, told Harrisburg City Council on Oct. 28 that the market began in November 2015 and has grown into a monthly event that offers low‑cost retail opportunities for local makers and small businesses.
“We are honored to be here tonight to talk about our big milestone of 10 years in business hosting monthly markets in Harrisburg City,” Weaver said. She said the market now has held 117 monthly markets, 28 special events and provided more than 7,500 vendor spaces.
The city presented a signed proclamation commending the HBG Flea’s role in supporting local small businesses and community collaboration. Jared Truesdale, city clerk, read the proclamation and said the city applauds the HBG Flea for its “dedicated commitment to supporting small businesses and celebrating community, collaboration, and creativity.” The proclamation notes outdoor and indoor venue schedules and extends best wishes for the flea’s 10th anniversary season.
Weaver described the market’s evolution from a college‑era idea to a year‑round program that operates on the first Saturday of each month; outdoor markets run May–October and indoor markets at Strawberry Square run 10 a.m.–4 p.m. She said the market moved to a “pay‑what‑you‑can” model in 2020 to lower financial barriers for vendors.
Council members and staff encouraged residents to attend upcoming markets, including the next market on Saturday, Nov. 1, and a holiday market on Dec. 6. The proclamation was signed by Jared Truesdale, city clerk, and Danielle L. Hill, council president.
