Council authorizes police to use Highest Bid Auctions for abandoned property sales

The Lincoln Park City Council voted to authorize the Lincoln Park Police Department to execute an agreement with Highest Bid Auctions of Battle Creek to sell abandoned bicycles and other abandoned or confiscated property, the mayor announced during the consent agenda.
A police department representative told the council the city previously worked with McMillan Auction Company but its owner retired and that Highest Bid Auctions was recommended. The representative said proceeds from each auction, minus a 15% fee retained by the auction company, will be returned to the police department and deposited into the city's general fund. Auctions may be held up to twice a year or "as the amount of abandoned property dictates," the department said.
Clerk called the roll for the resolution. Councilmembers Ross, Dupre, Salcedo, Zor, Baer and Mayor Tobin voted yes; no nay votes or abstentions were recorded for members present. The council approved the authorization during the consent portion of the meeting; no additional debate or amendments were recorded.
The council did not provide a contract number or attach the proposed agreement text to the public remarks at the meeting. The police department representative said the auction location is Highest Bid Auctions, 301 West Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek. Staff did not give a schedule for the first auction at the meeting.
