The House Professional Licensure Committee on Oct. 31 reported House Bill 1980, which would require physicians to complete one hour of continuing medical education in nutrition during each biennial licensure period.

"As we all know, nutrition is the foundation of good health and prevention, and physicians are a trusted source of information for patients," Representative Taytak told the committee, arguing that a regular nutrition education requirement would help keep physicians up to date and could strengthen Pennsylvania’s application for the competitive portion of a federal rural health transformation program.

Committee members conducted a roll-call vote. Jamie, the committee clerk, read the role and the recorded tally announced by the chair recorded "The yeas are 25 and the nays are 1." The committee reported the bill as committed with that recorded vote.

The bill will proceed in the legislative process as reported from committee.
