The Nixa City Council voted Oct. 27 to authorize the city administrator to solicit bids to abandon water well number 1, a downtown well staff said has gone out of service because the casing has deteriorated.

Water Superintendent Jason Stutel told council the casing has dissolved and the well must be abandoned per Department of Natural Resources specifications. Stutel said the city has received one preliminary bid of about $25,000.

Council opened and closed a public hearing with no public speakers and approved the resolution by voice vote.
