Vernon Hills sets 2025 holiday lighting for Century Park on Nov. 29

Assistant Manager Petrillo reviewed the 2024 move to Century Park (in partnership with the Park District) and noted benefits — central location, adjacent parking and restrooms — as well as a lack of heated shelter. Staff reminded the board that the village approved purchase of an artificial tree (26 feet) earlier and that the village and Park District will again coordinate. Trustees discussed the merits of keeping the traditional Thanksgiving‑weekend date for consistency and the advantage of giving a multi‑year chance for the new location to build attendance; staff and trustees noted last year’s stronger attendance at the park compared with prior municipal course locations.
The board asked staff to proceed with event planning, communications and partner coordination. Staff will finalize vendors, consider shelter or indoor backup options as needed, and publish the event date and location.
