Hunt County Commissioners on Oct. 28 read and approved two proclamations honoring awareness and service months: one recognizing October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Hunt County and another designating November 2025 as National Alzheimer's Awareness Month and Alzheimer's Caregiver Month in Hunt County.
Representatives from Women in Need thanked the court and summarized local client services. A presenter said "last year, women in need served 706 nonduplicated clients. A 176 of those came through our shelter and 71 of those were children." The domestic-violence proclamation text cited statewide figures and national statistics; presenters said "last year, there were 161 victims lost to domestic violence across the state of Texas" and the proclamation urged residents to support survivors and prevention services.
For Alzheimer's awareness, staff read statistics included in the proclamation: the text in the meeting record said that "worldwide, nearly 50,000,000 people have Alzheimer's or related dementia" and that in the United States "there are 7,000,000 people living with Alzheimer's disease" and that without a cure that number could grow to as many as 13,000,000 by 2050. The Alzheimer's proclamation also recognized a local nonprofit, Remember for Me, that provides support to caregivers in Hunt County.
Both proclamations were approved by voice vote; the transcript records motions and that the motions carried.
