The Covington County Commission reconvened after a recess and conducted routine business on Oct. 28, 2025. Commissioners approved the consent agenda, including the minutes of the Oct. 14 meeting, and made several appointments and contract decisions.
Appointments and personnel matters: Commissioners discussed and approved nominees for vacancies on the South Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission. The names presented and approved in the motion were Ollie Hudson, Gail Robbins, Willie Bird and Ben Corson. Commissioner Lynn made the motion to appoint the nominees; commissioners voted in favor.
Contracts, grants and public safety: The commission approved a traffic-enforcement overtime agreement with Enterprise State Community College that funds additional deputy hours and checkpoints during holiday periods; the county will receive reimbursement for hours submitted under the agreement. Commissioners also discussed a request from Little Britches (a youth rodeo organization) to contract for arena use at a reduced rate; the commission tabled that item pending further review of costs and guarantees. A proposal from Alabama High School Rodeo remained in place for comparative rates.
Infrastructure and events: The commission authorized use of the "Covington County" pageant name and imposed a residency restriction for contestants representing the county at the peanut festival. Commissioners also approved an award for bridge piling and bridge components for the Eden Creek bridge project (Padgett Road / Sand River Church area). The award motion was moved and seconded and approved by the commission.
Tabled items and staff work: A proposed retiree-insurance policy and an update to the county organizational chart were both tabled for further work by staff; commissioners asked for additional information and for compliance with public‑meeting rules before resuming debate.
Operations and facilities: Commissioners asked staff to ensure county vehicles display the current county emblems and discussed placement of two video boards inside the courthouse rotunda where they would be publicly visible; staff were authorized to proceed and to purchase appropriately sized units. Commissioners also received a positive report on a roll‑off trash drop program that county staff said was reducing roadside dumping; commissioners said they may add more drop locations before year end.
Ending: The meeting closed after routine commissioner reports and announcements; no ordinances or county-level policy votes were adopted that would alter permitting for external projects such as the Reliant presentation earlier in the meeting.
