Talbot County issues proclamations honoring Talbot County Free Library centennial and Trappe's Nace's Day

The Talbot County Council on Oct. 20 adopted proclamations marking two community milestones.
Library centennial: The county's proclamation recognizes that the Talbot County Free Library began operations in 1925 with citizen subscriptions and has since expanded services and branches, including a Maryland Room established in 1941. Library staff, volunteers and supporters accepted the proclamation and spoke about the library's role as a community hub for books, multimedia, broadband access and lifelong learning.
Nace's Day (Trappe): The council read a proclamation commemorating the 158th annual Nace's Day celebration, honoring Nathaniel Nace Hopkins and the long-running parade and community observance in Trappe. Dale Kevin Brown, a descendant, introduced family members in attendance and described Hopkins's civic contributions, including enlistment in the United States Colored Troops and work to establish schools and communities. Jeannie Hathaway Riccio of the Talbot Historical Society said the society is supporting reenactments and exhibits, noting an on-site performance on Nov. 1 in Trappe and a repeat performance on Nov. 3 at the Oxford Community Center.
Both proclamations were adopted by roll call. Council members praised volunteers, staff and descendants for preserving local history.
