Aims Community Preschool: county-supported scholarships aid 80 children; center pursues higher quality ratings

Nancy Kraus, speaking online for Aims Community Preschool (ACPC), thanked the board for county support and described how asset-process scholarships help low-income families with tuition. She said last year 80 children received assistance and roughly 75% of those recipients qualified for the highest-need "tier D" benefit.
Kraus said approximately 40 families were awaiting scholarship consideration. She described program quality initiatives including submission for Iowa's IQ4K quality rating system and steps toward NAEYC accreditation. The center uses the Creative Curriculum and emergent curriculum across classrooms and emphasizes relationship skills.
Kraus said workforce recruitment and retention remain a challenge for childcare providers; ACPC has implemented recruitment and retention payments and revised orientation materials to support staff. She told supervisors the center plans not to raise tuition in the coming year while prioritizing staff retention and expanding enrollment when possible.
Supervisors thanked Kraus for the report and for the center's partnership with county asset funding.
