Seaford Electric Department honored with Smart Energy and APPA reliability and safety awards

Kimberly Schlichting, president and CEO of DMACC, and Rob Cooney, DMACC chief operating officer, visited Seaford City Hall Oct. 28 to present three awards to the Seaford Electric Department: a Smart Energy Provider designation, the American Public Power Association (APPA) Safety Award for Excellence and APPA Certificates of Reliability.
Director Greg Brook told the council the awards recognize the utility's commitment to workplace safety, reliability and smart energy practices, and he thanked DMACC for assistance preparing the applications. "Without assistance from members at DMACC, our recognition for the smart energy provider designation will not be possible," Brook said.
Schlichting said the awards are national recognitions and credited the electric crew, line workers and office staff for the performance that made Seaford eligible. "This is a national award that was applied for," she said. "It's really the work that you're doing back at home that allows you to win and get these awards."
Council members praised the department's performance and attendance at the presentation. No formal action was taken; the presentation was informational and ceremonial.
