Adrian, the county staff member presenting the budget, told the committee animal-control had launched a GoFundMe campaign with a $40,000 target; if that campaign reaches the full amount, staff said the supplemental would not be needed. The committee voted to approve $40,000 as a backup source and asked staff to establish accounting and reporting so donated funds could be tracked separately.
Committee members discussed the timing and sufficiency of the $40,000 for cages, kennels and equipment. Members asked that the animal-control officer provide an itemized list of equipment/costs and commit to monthly reporting of donations and expenditures so the county could reconcile GoFundMe receipts with expenditures. Adrian said the supplemental is intended to be a one-time capital build-out; he and the committee expected the operating budget to be monitored separately and any future staffing costs to come back for review.
The committee approved the animal-control supplemental and instructed staff to set up separate accounting for donations and to return updates on fundraising progress and use of the capital funds.
