Sweetwater approves Flagler City Center land‑use category and map change

The City Commission sitting as the Local Planning Agency on Oct. 29 approved two ordinances to establish a new Flagler City Center District land‑use category and to redesignate roughly 104 acres to that category, paving the way for a large master‑planned redevelopment.

Applicant Alejandro Arias, who identified his business address as 701 Brickell Avenue, told commissioners the site is bounded by Northwest Seventh Street to the north, West Flagler Street to the south, Northwest 10th Avenue to the east and Northwest 14th Avenue to the west and described a plan that would include "thousands of new residential units, prime retail and dining destinations, healthcare and educational facilities, a hotel and conference center, and generous public green spaces."
