Munshi described incidents of name‑calling and exclusion across his own K–12 experience and cited a Council on American‑Islamic Relations statistic reported in his remarks that more than half of Muslim students in California reported bullying during the preceding school year. He asked the board to adopt the two observances so that students from those communities would be “celebrated, seen, but most importantly, safe within our learning environment.”
Board members acknowledged the comment and indicated they would follow up with the resolution author for consideration at a future meeting. No formal amendment to the resolution was proposed or voted on during the session.
The board did not take immediate action on the student’s request; a trustee suggested staff bring a revised resolution back for consideration.
