Superintendent announces PLU direct‑admit partnership for qualified OHS graduates; district website to relaunch Nov. 15

Superintendent Dr. Perez told the board the district has negotiated a direct-admit pathway with Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) intended to increase college access for Othello High School students.
"If you're a student at Othello High School and you graduate with a 3.3 or higher and you've completed Algebra II, you'll be admitted into Pacific Lutheran University," Dr. Perez said, describing a streamlined interest survey and a data-share agreement the district has signed with PLU. He said PLU is offering a PLU-bound scholarship that for Othello students would equate to about $23,000 this year to help offset tuition costs.
Dr. Perez also announced the district plans to launch a redesigned Othello School District website on Nov. 15. Staff member Leah Lemus has led the redesign; the superintendent asked staff to prepare a "sandbox" or navigation demo for the board meeting on Nov. 10 so trustees can review the new layout and provide feedback.
Board members expressed support and asked staff to show how parent-facing information (for example, how colors are presented for attendance/academic status) will appear on ParentSquare or Skyward.
No formal board action was taken on either the PLU partnership or the website update at the meeting; the items were presented for information and the board requested follow-up materials.
