Commission votes to schedule Art in Public Places work session to review ASU study

The Kingman City Parks & Recreation Commission voted to schedule a work session to review the Art in Public Places materials created in partnership with Arizona State University.

Josh Noble, a parks staff member who presented the update, said the ASU team prepared a draft report with three components and that staff and commissioners would review the document to develop recommendations on funding, volunteer involvement and next steps. "That should be in our hands next week," Noble said.

The commission approved a motion to schedule the work session after commissioners discussed that the session would allow them to make recommendations on funding and staffing, identify possible volunteer roles and coordinate stakeholders. Chair Giesch called for a motion; a motion was made and seconded and approved by voice vote.

The work session will be scheduled by staff in the weeks before the next commission meeting; Lisa (staff) was directed to circulate possible dates and times. No formal funding decisions were made at the meeting; commissioners said the work session would be the venue to consider budget options and any formal recommendations to the council.

Commissioners and staff emphasized public engagement and recommended the commission use the work session to identify community partners and volunteers to support any programmatic or installation work recommended by the ASU report.
