Nonprofit asks Newman City for $10,000 sponsorship for March 2026 tornado commemorative performance

Seasons of Strength, a local nonprofit project documenting and presenting survivor and volunteer stories from the 2021 tornado, asked the Newman City Council Oct. 28 to consider a $10,000 gold-level sponsorship to help stage a March 2026 performance.
Presenter Gwendolyn Coleman said the event would feature musicians from the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, dancers and visual artists, and recorded testimony from more than 100 community members. Coleman said the group is seeking philanthropic and municipal support so tickets can remain affordable and so the performance can be broadcast to survivors who no longer live in the area. "To have the official partnership and support of the city of Newnan would be a catalyst for our project as we spend the next five months bringing Seasons of Strength to the stage," Coleman said.
Council members thanked the presenter and said the request raised budget and legal considerations: the city's budget process is underway and staff advised the council would need legal advice about spending public funds through a fiscal agent. The council did not vote on a sponsorship at the meeting but said the presentation had started internal discussions about possible support and alternative sponsorship levels.
The presenter said the nonprofit had received some grants and private commitments and welcomed additional city-level or private support to close the funding gap.
